Dr. Jaime Marie Elving<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Jaime Marie Elving, completed her Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology with a specialization in Industrial\/Organizational Psychology and graduated with distinction as she worked for Highmark Health Systems. Losing pituitary function as a young adult, she developed an endocrine disorder, panhypopituitarism . This qualified her as having a hidden disability, a disability which is not immediately obvious. She volunteered as the Chair of the Abilities Business Resource Group (BRG). This group involves employees in advocating for individuals with disabilities in workplace, marketplace, and community-wide programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of the many contacts she made during this time, she became involved in the study of disabilities. Her findings as she worked in her doctoral program, were that most of the research seemed to concentrate on negative aspects of disability with relation to the workplace. Thus, she directed her research to creating a thesis which studied the way in which positive working relationships between a person without a disability and a person with a disability had evolved. Could some of the strategies involved be fostered within corporations? Could positive outcomes for corporate relationships for the employee with a disability be achieved with a supporting framework of coworkers? These are some of the goals Jaime tried to achieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaime passed away in 2019 of sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 37. Her hope would be that others could benefit from her study and that others would try to refine and extend her findings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
